Jewish Professor: I Feel Safe on Columbia Campus, Jewish Protesters Being Arrested
House Speaker Mike Johnson, who is close to Israel’s extremist government, called for the school's president's ouster.
Nara Milanich, a Jewish professor of history at Barnard College, Columbia University, told Owen Jones’s podcast that she feels perfectly safe on campus and some of the student protesters being arrested are Jewish as well.
Milanich was asked if the media’s depiction of the protest at Columbia is a shinning example of antisemitism on college campuses.
“I can say as a Jewish faculty member, I'm happy to walk on campus and I do it multiple times a day,” she said. “I would say also that Jewish students are many of those who are being arrested. I mean some of the student leaders of this movement are Jewish students. Many of the students in the encampment are Jewish… are Jewish students, as you know and, again, students from a variety of other groups so this idea is just, frankly, not true.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson, who is close to Israel’s extremist government, visited the school on Wednesday and called for Nemat Shafik, Columbia University’s president, to resign.
Calling for the resignation of college presidents has become a cottage industry in the Republican Party. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., who is often close to Johnson’s side, has made a political career out of it.
The “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” entered its eighth day on Wednesday. The school’s paper, The Columbia Spectator, wrote: “Hundreds of University faculty members also organized a walkout rally on Low Steps, supporting the arrested students, condemning University President Minouche Shafik’s use of police force, and emphasizing the importance of academic freedom and faculty governance.”
Police made more than 100 arrests, The New York Times reported.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu also said in a video message: “What’s happening on America’s college campuses is horrific. Antisemitic mobs have taken over leading universities. They call for the annihilation of Israel, they attack Jewish students, they attack Jewish faculty. This is reminiscent of what happened in German universities in the 1930s.”
TRENDPOST: The young people have had enough with the establishment media and politicians telling them what to do and stealing their money to fund foreign wars. This is just the beginning.
Who would have thought seven months ago that. this issue would be the trigger that upends the undemocratic government in power today? Yes, the protests has the potential to spread across the fruited plains as a political movement robust in the knowledge that it is morally and politically on the side of humanity. MLK's civil rights movement began with the children led by Reverend Bevel. It soon spread to become a powerful force for Good. So be it today.
I feel not safe with a Government run by criminals.
