Netanyahu Rejects New York Times Report That Israeli Military Leaders Are Willing to End Genocide Before Completing Objectives
There has been a growing public rift between the prime minister who needs to war for his political survival and his military
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected an article in The New York Times that appeared Tuesday claiming that his military leaders would be willing to end the genocide without achieving all of his objectives in Gaza.
He posted on X: “Anonymous sources briefed The New York Times that Israel will be prepared to end the war before all of its objectives are achieved. I do not know who these anonymous sources are, but I am here to make it unequivocally clear: This will not happen.”
The Times said, “Israel’s top generals want to begin a cease-fire in Gaza even if it keeps Hamas in power for the time being, widening a rift between the military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has opposed a truce that would allow Hamas to survive the war.”
The generals think that a truce would be the best way of freeing the roughly 120 Israelis still held, both dead and alive, in Gaza, according to interviews with six current and former security officials.
Tens of thousands of Israelis held rallies across the country on Saturday demanding that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his War Cabinet agree to a deal with Hamas that would free up the remaining hostages in exchange for a ceasefire.
Haaretz reported that one of the rallies was held in Tel Aviv’s so-called Hostage Square, and a hostage who was freed addressed the crowd via video.
Noa Argamani, the former hostage, made her first public comment and reminded the protesters that there are still 120 hostages in Hamas captivity – including her partner Avinatan Or.
“Although I'm home now, we can't forget about the hostages who are still in Hamas captivity, and we must do everything possible to bring them back home,” she said, according to the report.
Protests have gripped the country for months.
Netanyahu’s critics say the prime minister is in no particular hurry to end the war with Gaza because of the scrutiny that he would face in how the 7 October attack was ever pulled off. Netanyahu’s coalition is fragile and if he ends the war, his top extremists have said they would dissolve the government, which would mean he’d face the corruption charges.
Netanyahu has said he will continue the war effort until Hamas is defeated.
Noam Tibon, a retired IDF general, attended another protest and accused Netanyahu and the Knesset of failing to “leverage significant battlefield gains for hostage negotiations."
“Netanyahu's political calculations and reliance on figures like [Itamar] Ben-Gvir and [Bezalel] Smotrich” has hurt the ceasefire effort.
“Netanyahu is cynically sabotaging the deals, knowing that the hostages are suffering torture and murder in Gaza tunnels,” he said.
TRENDPOST: The Trends Journal has long said that Netanyahu is completely controlled by his extremist coalition government and will not stop the ethnic cleansing until he is forced to by an outside country.
He is just the tip of the scumberg.
They are all in on it wanting pushing for WW3.
They know when the momentum stops we come for them.
So they push us... wanting WW3... pushing us into mutual self destruction.
But their power fades away day by day.
Keep pushing
