Biden Claps at Graduation Ceremony for 'Permanent Ceasefire' Demand in Gaza

There was an awkward moment during the Morehouse graduation ceremony when Jeremiah Fletcher, the valedictorian, called for an “immediate and permanent ceasefire” in Gaza – which prompted President Joe Biden, who was sitting on stage, to join in the applause.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said earlier this month, during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, that any talk of a permanent ceasefire with Hamas is out of the question – even if every single remaining hostage is released.

While the mainstream news media in the West continues to portray Hamas as the obdurate party during these negotiations, the reality is that this group knows that Israel will continue its genocide and land-grab the hour any temporary ceasefire expires.

Hamas has said it will hand over the hostages if three conditions are met: permanent ceasefire, withdrawal of Israeli forces from all of Gaza, and the ability of the population to return home unimpeded.

Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior Hamas official, said Blinken has unfairly been trying to pin blame on the group for the failure of recent negotiations.

Blinken gave Israel’s ceasefire offer his stamp of approval. And – after Israel killed 34,500 people, mainly women and children – Blinken praised the offer as “extraordinarily generous.”

“There is a very strong proposal on the table right now,” Blinken said. “Hamas needs to say yes, and get this done.”

The Hamas official told Reuters that Blinken’s comments “contradict reality.”

“It is not strange for Blinken, who is known as the foreign minister of Israel, not America, to make such a statement. Even the Israeli negotiating team admitted Netanyahu was the one hindering reaching an agreement,” he said.

JNS reported that several of the graduates at the historically black college in Atlanta turned their backs on the president during the event. Biden assured the audience that he supports “peaceful nonviolent protests. Your voices should be heard, and I promise you, I hear you.”

TRENDPOST: Washington has done nothing to protect civilian life in Gaza since the start of the war. And with an Israeli invasion and mass bombing of Gaza, Israel’s slaughter of innocent civilians will escalate.
