Biden Would Lose in November if He Put Meaningful Pressure on Israel: Mearsheimer
The Trends Journal has noted that it does not matter what political party is in power in Washington, Israel will continue to get all the support it needs to impose its will on the Palestinians
John Mearsheimer, the professor and co-author of “The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, told Judge Andrew Napolitano’s “Judging Freedom” podcast on Thursday that U.S. President Joe Biden is desperate for a ceasefire in Gaza, but knows that if he put any real pressure on Israel to stop the bloodshed, it would mean a certain loss to Donald Trump in November.
Mearsheimer was asked about the embarrassing moment when Biden presented a ceasefire deal last week that was supposedly crafted with the help of Israel. (Judging by the response from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, it seems like the deal was written up by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on a napkin.)
But Mearsheimer said, at least politically, Biden wants a ceasefire.
“There’s nobody who wants peace in Gaza more than President Biden at this point in time,” he said.
Napolitano interjected and said Biden could bring peace to Gaza in one phone call.
“Well, he’s not going to do that,” Mearsheimer said. “We live in the real world here. He would lose for sure in November if he put any meaningful pressure on Israel. But President Biden is desperate to get a deal.”

Mearsheimer noted that Netanyahu is not “completely straight” with Biden and often indicates that he will accept a proposal because he thinks Hamas will turn it down. But then, if Hamas shows a willingness to accept a deal, he relies on ministers from his extremist government to make the case that the government would fall if he accepted such a deal.
He said he would not rule out the White House’s claim that the latest ceasefire deal was approved by Israel, but he believes Netanyahu may have “cut the other way” when it looked like Hamas could agree.

Extremist National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has taken issue with the Biden administration for “giving humanitarian aid and fuel, which goes to Hamas.”
