Hegseth’s supporters see him as a Trump loyalist who can bring major changes to the Defense Department. His critics see a dangerously inexperienced pick who faced serious allegations of inappropriate behavior in previous posts.
MacGregor said he was surprised that Trump would pick Hegseth, but will withhold judgment until he has been there for a while.
“I was surprised, along with countless others,” he told Edmund DeMarche, the executive editor of The Trends Journal. “I was even more surprised when President Trump indicated, ‘Well, I used to see Pete on Fox News…He was always interested in the military and was very energetic, very concerned.’”
MacGregor continued, “I don’t see anything in his background or record that would qualify him to do anything in the military at all.”
