Gaza Death Toll Hits 25,000...Will Biden Believe the Number?
Daily death toll is unprecedented in recent history, but nobody cares because Israel and the U.S. operate under a different set of rules.
One of the most embarrassing moments of President Joe Biden’s presidency was when, earlier in the Gaza genocide, he questioned the death toll out of the coastal enclave because it was produced by the Palestinian Health Ministry, which operates under Hamas.
There was no argument at the time that the civilian death toll was massive, but Biden, who calls himself a Zionist, said he had “no confidence in the number that the Palestinians are using.”
“I have no notion that the Palestinians are telling the truth about how many people are killed,” he said.
So while Biden may not believe the latest figures out of Gaza, it is still worth noting that the Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip said Sunday the death toll officially hit 25,000 — mainly women and children. (That number does not include the thousands lost under the rubble and 60,000+ who suffered serious injuries.)
The U.S. continues to bless Israel’s military action and reject international efforts for a ceasefire.
The pace of Israel’s killing in Gaza is unprecedented in recent history, averaging 250 Palestinians per day as the war reached its 100th day, Oxfam said last week.
“It is unimaginable that the international community is watching the deadliest rate of conflict of the 21st century unfold, while continuously blocking calls for a ceasefire,” Sally Abi Khalil, Oxfam’s Middle East director, said.
The report said it did not count the 1,200 dead Israelis in the Hamas attack on 7 October, or the 330 Palestinian killings in the West Bank by Israel since the war started. To put the 250 number in perspective, Oxfam listed recent conflicts and their daily death tolls:
Syria: 96.5 deaths per day
Sudan: 51.6
Iraq: 50.8
Ukraine: 43.9
Afghanistan: 23.8
Oxfam said Israel is killing Palestinians at a clip that “massively exceeds the daily death toll of any other major conflict of recent years.”
HAMAS ISSUES MEMO EXPLAINING MOTIVES BEHIND 7 OCTOBER ATTACK
Oxfam said it is not just the bombing and military campaign in Gaza that is killing people. Over a million people are seeking shelter in Rafah, on the Egyptian border and are facing cold and wet weather. There is a shortage of blankets and no fuel. Only about 10 percent of the needed weekly food aid is getting into the country.
TRENDPOST: It is no secret that Gaza is a genocidal disaster area, but there is no outrage in the media, and those calling for peace are banned, only warmongers are permitted to be “interviewed.” Instead, Americans are more concerned if privileged Jewish students feel uncomfortable in college.
