Germany's Baerbock a 'Security Risk' After 'Thoughtless' Comments on Russia: Bavarian PM

Foreign minister recently said Russia would have massacred all of Ukraine if not for Western support

Markus Soeder, the Bavarian prime minister, urged German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to stop his top diplomat, Annalena Baerbock, from continuing to make anti-Russian comments that are becoming a security risk for Germany.

“Mr. Scholz, finally stop Ms. Baerbock,” Soeder, a prominent figure in the German opposition, said, according to RT. He said her “thoughtless statements” are often “to the detriment of our country.” 

Last month, Baerbock said the West is at war with Russia.

Baerbock, a member of the Alliance 90/The Greens party, made the significant admission during a heated debate at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe about providing Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks, which was ultimately approved.

She said it was “crucial” that the countries are united and that there is no blame game because “we are fighting a war against Russia and not against each other.”

Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, seized on the remark and posted on Telegram that Baerbock proves that the West is waging a “premeditated war against Russia.”

“If we add this to Merkel’s revelations that they were strengthening Ukraine and did not count on the Minsk agreement, then we are talking about a war against Russia that was planned. Don’t say that we didn’t warn you.”

Baerbock also declared in September that despite the soaring energy costs and skyrocketing inflation as a result of the sanction the U.S. and NATO has imposed on Moscow, Berlin will stand with Ukraine as long as Kyiv needs the support during its war with Russia “no matter what my German voters think.”

As we have noted, Russia normally provides Europe with about 40 percent of its natural gas. Germany’s economy—the largest in Europe—relied on cheap Russian gas.

Sergey Ryabkov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, told reporters last week that a “total war” has been declared against Moscow and the “current period shouldn’t be underestimated.”

“It’s being waged in hybrid forms, in all areas,” he said. “The degree of animosity of our opponents—our enemies—is enormous, extraordinary.”

Baerbock said last week that she often is asked by people about how Ukraine would look if the West never provided Kyiv with weapons, and she said Russia would have massacred the entire country.

“If we wouldn’t have decided on the 27th of February in German parliament – or on the 24th around the world – to support Ukraine, there wouldn’t be 13 million refugees in Ukraine or outside of Ukraine – one million in Germany.  The total population of Ukraine is 42 million people.  If we wouldn’t have supported Ukraine since February 27th, then we would have seen Bucha, Mariupol, everywhere in the whole country.

TREND FORECAST: The claim that freedom is at risk in the West is an outright lie.
