GLENN GREENWALD: Imagine This Was Iran or Russia
Fox News's Mark Levin, who has said there are no innocent Palestinians, wants protesters to never be hired anywhere.
Glenn Greenwald, the notable journalist and host of “System Update,” posted a video of the massive police presence just outside New York’s Columbia University and imagined the outrage that would be occurring right now in the U.S. if students protesting for peace were treated with such hostility from law enforcement.
“If this were in Russia or Iran — a police force of this size deployed against students protesting the state's war policies — it'd be universally denounced as evil tyranny,” he posted. “The problem for the protesters is they chose the one issue that could provoke police force of this kind:”
He linked to a video posted from Brian Stelter, the former CNN anchor, who quoted a CNN reporter on the ground who said: "I've covered lots of this sort of stuff around the world, and i've never seen this many police moving into one area."
A law enforcement official told the outlet that over 100 protesters were arrested at Columbia University and City College of New York.
The report read: “Columbia University property, including Hamilton Hall, was cleared two hours after officers entered the campus to remove people protesting Israel's war in Gaza. The university has asked NYPD to maintain its presence on campus until May 17.
TRENDPOST: Free speech is dead in the U.S, as this week’s cover shows.
College students across the U.S. – willing to face arrest – have set up encampments and held protests on campus grounds to voice their outrage that Washington continues to fund Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
AIPAC’s favorite politicians – who once pretended to be First Amendment absolutists – have come out in unison to smash these protests. At first these students were called “pro-Palestinian.” When that didn’t work, they were called anti-Semites... and to further disparage them they are now being called pro-Hamas.
Sen. Ted Cruz, AIPAC-Texas, posted an image of teachers protesting outside Columbia University and wrote, “Fire them all.”
How far are we from a post that reads, “Open fire on them all”?
If you don’t obey, you will be expelled, and no company will hire you.
Andrew Ross Sorkin, The New York Times columnist, posted on X what he called a “controversial thought experiment.”
“What would happen if companies told universities that they wouldn’t hire ANY of their students unless the schools take decisive action to end blatant antisemitism on campus. After all, no company would use an executive search firm with even one employee who openly engaged in antisemitism,” he asked.
He failed to define antisemitism, and – despite the fact that Jewish groups are taking part in many of these protests – anyone who questions Israel’s motives in Gaza is immediately branded as disloyal to Israel, and, in turn, the U.S. itself.
Mark Levin, the pro-Israel Fox News host who once posted that there are no innocent Palestinians, posted on X: “Round them up [protesters], deport those who are here on student visas, arrest all others, and put out their names and photos so everyone knows who never to hire. Make sure they receive no student loan forgiveness or any other federal funds of any kind. They might be Hamas. We are red-blooded Americans. We own this country. They don't.”
Greenwald responded to Levin’s post: What a sober decree by one of the country's most fanatical devotees to Israel. Why not just be clearer and say: it should be legal to criticize the US Govt, but criminal to criticize Israel? Many of the protesters are US citizens and at least as "red-blooded" as Mark Levin.
This is a defining moment in US history. Who are we? Citizens of the United States of America, whose Rights are protected under the Federal Constitution? Or citizens of the United States of America whose Rights are protected with the exception of Israel?
At the moment, Israel’s illegal actions in violation of international laws are protected by the US Federal Government. Only Hawaii has mustered the moral courage to stand up against what amounts to clear violations by Israel of international law in the commission of genocide against the Palestinians, while Federal and other State authorities have chosen to violate Students Right to protests, protected under the 1st Amendment. It is crystal clear that US Federal government actions to defend Israel, right or wrong, is in violation of Federal law and it is also clear that the U.S. Federal government is aiding and abetting Israel in carrying out its genocide and other high crimes against the Palestinian people.
One would have to ignore the law to defend Israel today, which is what Mark Levin and the Biden administration is doing. It begs the question, are we a nation governed by Laws or Men? As of this moment it is the latter.
Excellent! “Red blooded Americans” as defined by Levin (this would include warmonger blogs like Instapundit) are assholes. F—k the USA.
