Houthis Claim Deadly Drone Strike in Tel Aviv Amid Gaza Massacre
The Houthis have said from the onset of the confrontation that it will not stop until Israel ends the genocide in Gaza
The Yemeni Houthis, who have said they will defend Gazans as long as Israel continues its massacre campaign, carried out a deadly drone strike in Tel Aviv on Friday, killing one and injuring at least 10 – prompting a chorus of moral outrage by AIPAC’s Congress.
Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., posted: “This latest Iran-backed Houthi drone attack against civilians in Tel Aviv is shocking. Iran and the Houthis must be held accountable. We must be unwavering in our support for Israel’s right to exist and defend itself.”
CNN noted that the drone strike, in the central part of the city – near consulates – is the first time Tel Aviv was struck in an attack claimed by the Houthis.
Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the Israeli military spokesman, said Israel is investigating why the drone was not picked up by radar systems. The Houthis claimed that the drone was produced in Yemen while Israel said the drone was likely Iranian.
“An initial inquiry indicates that the explosion in Tel Aviv was caused by the falling of an aerial target, and no sirens were activated. The incident is under thorough review,” Israel’s military said in a statement.
The Biden administration re-designated the Houthis as a terror organization and has carried out bombing campaigns in the impoverished country. President Joe Biden admitted that the airstrikes against Yemen will not deter the Houthis from carrying out attacks in the Red Sea.
Mohammed Abdulsalam, a Houthi spokesman, told Reuters earlier in the conflict that the group has no interest in the escalation to expand.
“This is not our demand. We imposed rules of engagement in which not a single drop of blood was shed or major material losses. It represented pressure on Israel only, it did not represent pressure on any country in the world,” he said.
TRENDPOST: The Houthis have said from the onset of the confrontation that it will not stop until Israel ends the genocide in Gaza and—no matter how many bombs the U.S. drops from the skies—the conflict will only make them stronger.
