Israel Allegedly Tortured UNRWA Staffers to Make Them Confess to Role in Hamas Attack
Claims by Israel that staffers played a role in the attack, prompted the Biden administration to cut off funding for the vital agency
Israel allegedly abused and coerced detained UNRWA workers before getting them to admit to being involved in the 7 October Hamas attack that resulted in the U.S. and other Western countries cutting off all funding to the agency because of its alleged ties to the attack.
Reuters said it reviewed a report by the agency that “detailed allegations of mistreatment in Israeli detention made by unidentified Palestinians, including several working for UNRWA.”
The report read:
“Agency staff members have been subject to threats and coercion by the Israeli authorities while in detention, and pressured to make false statements against the Agency, including that the Agency has affiliations with Hamas and that UNRWA staff members took part in the 7 October 2023 atrocities.”
Haaretz reported Thursday that Israeli forces killed 27 Palestinian detainees from Gaza since the Hamas attack.
Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UNRWA, which Israel has long dreamed of closing down, announced Monday that Israel has not provided evidence linking 450 agency employees to militant groups, according to the Associated Press.
Israel alleged that 12 employees of the UN agency took part in the 7 October Hamas attack that killed 1,200 Israelis and resulted in over 300 hostages. The mere allegation prompted the U.S. to suspend funding for the vital group that works in Gaza.
Allegedly my ass, torture is as natural to the Israelis as breathing. Always was, always will be.
