Israel Can't Defeat Iran Without U.S. Support: MacGregor
Military expert says Russia will get involved if the U.S. sides with Israel in a war against Iran
Col. Douglas MacGregor, (ret.), a decorated combat veteran and former advisor to the Secretary of Defense in the Trump administration, said in an interview that Israel could not defeat Iran in a conventional war without the U.S.’s support.
MacGregor appeared on Judge Andrew Napolitano’s YouTube show “Judging Freedom” and was asked if the Israeli military could stand up to Iranian forces.
“No,” he said. “The Israelis know that but they assume that we [the U.S.] will come in one way or the other.”
He said his greatest fear is that Israel attacks Iran decisively and that the U.S. gets involved.
“Russia will intervene,” he said. “Russia will not permit us, with the Israelis to destroy Iran. It simply isn’t going to happen. Those ties are very close…they’re not just politically advantageous…they have economic foundations. And Russia is tired of us. We’ve tried to do enormous damage to them…we’ve succeeded in destroying Ukraine, but Russia hasn’t forgotten and Russia’s not going to tolerate it.”
He said he thinks Israel sees itself with its back against the wall, and the region is no longer afraid of it, despite its nuclear threat. ‘Deterrence’ is Israel’s attempt to be feared in the region, and without it, “Israel will not survive,” according to Netanyahu’s view.
