David Azoulai, the head of Metula council in northern Israel, said in a radio interview that Gaza should resemble the Auschwitz concentration camp when Israeli forces completed its war in the coastal enclave — becoming the latest official to call for either the killing or removal of all Palestinians from the city.
“A security strip should be established from the sea to the Gaza border fence, completely empty, as a reminder of what was once there,” he told Tel Aviv’s Radio 103FM, according to The Palestine Chronicle. “It should resemble the Auschwitz concentration camp.”
The Jerusalem Post quoted him saying:
"Tell everyone in Gaza to go to the beaches. Navy ships should load the terrorists onto the shores of Lebanon. The entire Gaza Strip should be emptied and leveled flat, just like in Auschwitz. Let it become a museum, showcasing the capabilities of the State of Israel and dissuading anyone from living in the Gaza Strip. This is what must be done To give them a visual representation.”
Azoulai said the 7 October attack was the equivalent of the second Holocaust for Jewish people. He said Hezbollah is “observing the situation in the south, and if we don’t address it properly, they will see it as a weakness. No matter how strong terrorism may be, we cannot live in fear or uproot people from their homes. We must act decisively.”
The Trends Journal has been documenting some of the extremist rhetoric from Israeli officials who have called for genocide in Gaza.
Zvika Fogel, a member of Itamar Ben-Gvir’s ultra-nationalist Jewish Power party, told an Israeli news station that there should be a “final war” that “subdues them [Palestinians] once and for all.”
