MACGREGOR: It's Netanyahu and Trump against the world, with Netanyahu on top
Trump seems to be buying time to rearm
Retired U.S. Army Col. Douglas MacGregor said in an interview Thursday that the report that said the Trump administration signed off on the text of the temporary ceasefire released by Pakistan, which included Lebanon, is the latest evidence that it is President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against the world.
The Financial Times reported that the Trump administration was desperate for a halt to the war — even after Trump posted on Truth Social that he would end Iranian civilization if Tehran did not agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by his self-imposed deadline on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
Shehbez Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, announced a breakthrough in a post on X that said, in part: “With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.”
The Trump administration later rejected the claim that Lebanon was included in the deal, and Israel proceeded to kill at least 254 people in its worst attack yet on the country.
McGregor told Judge Andrew Napolitano’s Judging Freedom the draft that was submitted included Lebanon in the ceasefire deal and the deal was viewed by Tehran and Washington.
“And, suddenly, a call came in from Mr. Netanyahu after he discovered that Lebanon was part of the deal and he said, ‘No, no, no…this can’t happen.’ At which point in time, President Trump said, ‘No, no, no…We’re sorry…we made a mistake. Lebanon is not part of the deal.’ And now you have Vice President (JD) Vance saying it was ‘never supposed to be there. That’s a mistake. Lebanon is a separate and distinct affair.’ So you go back, and you determine who is running the show. I think it’s pretty obvious – it’s Bibi Netanyahu and Donald Trump against the world with Bibi Netanyahu on top.”
The New York Times reported Wednesday:
Behind the scenes, the White House had already seen and signed off on the statement before Mr. Sharif posted it, according to a person briefed on the communication, a sign that the diplomatic channels were much more active than the message on social media suggested.
Al Jazeera reported on Thursday that Netanyahu said he “has issued an instruction to start direct negotiations with Lebanon ‘as soon as possible’ after what he claimed were requests from Beirut.”
TRENDPOST: The Trends Journal has reported extensively on how Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024, but the IDF violated the agreement about 10,000 times, according to reports.
