MARANDI: U.S. behaving like an empire in decline

Iranian professor says Iran will not be caught off guard if the U.S./Israel attacks again

Mohammad Marandi, the professor from the University of Tehran, told The Trends Journal that the U.S. is behaving diplomatically like an empire on the decline as it supports Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and its destabilizing attacks across the Middle East.

“I think that, perhaps, the United States in the past was that bully at school, which was good-looking and a sportsman and people wanted to be their friends, but also knew that it was a bully,” he said. “But the United States today is this nasty, sinister, mean bully that is just despised, but feared by many. So I think that facade is gone; that facade that made it more effective in bullying in the past has disappeared. And I think that the reason that the United States is behaving in such a crude manner that it is today, is because it’s a declining empire, and it is becoming more desperate. In the past when it had more control, it could be more flexible.”

The New York Times, citing a senior Israeli official, reported on Thursday that Tel Aviv believes Iran managed to preserve some of its enriched uranium after the U.S. strikes.

In a briefing for reporters on Wednesday evening, the senior Israeli official did not express concern about the assessment that some of the stockpile of 60 percent enriched uranium, stored in casks, had survived the attack. The official, and other Israelis with access to the country’s intelligence findings, said any attempts by Iran to recover it would almost certainly be detected — and there would be time to attack the facilities again.

Marandi said he believes the Iranian regime is preparing for another round of war with the Israelis and the U.S.

“They [the Israelis] are not going to catch us off guard like they did before,” he said.
