NATO FEAR-MONGERING: Sweden Warns Public War is Coming
Sweden announced in September that it will increase military spending by about 30 percent in 2024 in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
Top Swedish officials told citizens that they need to begin preparing for war and it is important for people to “understand what is at stake.”
“On an individual level, you have to prepare yourself mentally,” Micael Bydén, the country’s commander-in-chief, said, according to Euractiv. “This is a very serious situation, and the clarity yesterday was unmistakable. It is now about moving from words and understanding to action.”

He continued, “Look at the news from Ukraine and ask yourself the simple questions: If this happens here, am I prepared? What should I do? The more people who have thought, considered and prepared, the stronger our society will be.”
Sweden announced in September that it will increase military spending by about 30 percent in 2024 in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, stating that it now faces its “most serious security situation” since WWII.
The $10.8 billion military budget will include funding for artillery systems, submarines, fighter jets, and transport planes, the Financial Times reported. Stockholm is expected to get full NATO approval this year. The U.S. and U.K. have already offered security guarantees for the country.
Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president and chairman of Russia’s Security Council, said last year that “it will no longer be possible to talk about any non-nuclear status of the Baltic—the balance must be restored. Until now, Russia has not taken such measures and was not going to take them.”
“The Baltic region’s nonnuclear status will become a thing of the past, the group of land and naval forces in the northern sector will be seriously increased,” he said. “No one is happy with this, not the citizens of these two NATO candidate countries.”
Finland, which shares a long border with Russia, was since approved as a new NATO member. Sweden was the more hesitant country to apply.
The FT reported that Stockholm only started to take NATO membership seriously after “Finland indicated it was likely to join regardless of what Sweden did, robbing Stockholm of its sole credible alternative: a defense alliance with Helsinki.”
Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Swedish civil defense minister, said Sunday, “For a nation for whom peace has been a pleasant companion for almost 210 years, the idea that it is an immovable constant is conveniently close at hand,” Newsweek reported.
“But taking comfort in this conclusion has become more dangerous than it has been for a very long time," he continued. Many have said it before me, but let me do so in an official capacity, more plainly and with naked clarity: There could be war in Sweden,” he said.
RT noted that Russia has accused “the West” of turning Europe into an “arena for confrontation.”
TRENDPOST: As NATO’s first secretary-general put it, NATO was formed in order to keep the Russians out of Western Europe and the Americans in. Instead of disbanding NATO when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, Washington dramatically expanded NATO.
