Netanyahu Bosses Blinken Around Again, Won't Publicly Reject Ethnic Cleansing Allegations in Northern Gaza
The Generals' Plan was designed by a retired Israeli general who has argued that epidemics in Gaza could benefit the military campaign there
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showed the Biden administration who’s boss again on Tuesday when he refused a request from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to publicly state that Israel will not ethnically cleanse northern Gaza under the so-called “Generals’ Plan.”
A U.S. official told The Times of Israel that Netanyahu — in private — denied that the strategy was being carried out, but when pressed during a meeting today to announce that position publicly, the Israeli leader “demurred.”
The plan is also known as the Eiland Plan because its chief architect is Giora Eiland, a retired general. The plan would enforce the complete siege of northern Gaza, starving the population and killing anyone who stayed behind.
(It is worth noting that Eiland is known for promoting how rampant disease in Gaza could benefit the Israeli military campaign there.
He wrote, “Who are the ‘poor’ women of Gaza? They are all the mothers, sisters or wives of Hamas murderers…The international community warns us of a humanitarian disaster in Gaza and of severe epidemics. We must not shy away from this, as difficult as that may be. After all, severe epidemics in the south of the Gaza Strip will bring victory closer and reduce casualties among IDF soldiers.”)
Middle East Eye reported that within the last month, the IDF ordered hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee, but many have refused to move because they are fatigued, malnourished, and do not believe they would be any safer in the south.

Assaf David, co-founder of the Forum for Regional Thinking and head of the Israel in the Middle East cluster at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, told the outlet that the move to seize the north will not return the hostages and the Netanyahu government understands that.
“I think the government let go of the hostages and they don’t care if they die,” David said.
Daniella Weiss, a top Israeli settler followed by some of the Israeli government’s top officials like Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, told a conference yesterday that it is just a matter of time before Palestinians vanish from Gaza and the territory is populated by Israelis.
“We came here with one clear purpose: the purpose is to settle the entire Gaza Strip, not just part of it, not just a few settlements, the entire Gaza Strip from north to south,” she said.
This is not the first time that Netanyahu humiliated Blinken.
In August, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Mich., asked how it’s possible that a country like Israel — that relies fully on U.S. support — can humiliate the country’s top diplomat on multiple occasions after visits to come up with a ceasefire deal.
"How do we allow our Secretary of State to go into Israel, say we are close to securing a ceasefire now for the 11th time, to leave for Egypt, only for [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu to have a press conference right after him and say we are not taking a deal that ends this war. How are we not ashamed that that is the humiliation that our administration's representatives are faced with," Omar told the “Uncommitted” movement’s press conference in Chicago, according to Clarion. “How are we not ashamed that that is the humiliation that our administration’s representatives are faced with? It’s not just the hypocrisy of saying we respect international law, but humiliation.”
