Netanyahu's Boss: Ultimate Goal is for a 'Greater Israel' from Damascus to Saudi Arabia
The genocide in Gaza and bombing campaign in Lebanon was never about returning hostages.
Bezalel Smotrich, the extremist Israeli finance minister, said it is “written” that Israel’s future is its expansion to Damascus and parts of Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, according to a French documentary titled: “Israel: Extremists in Power.”
“It is written that the future of Jerusalem is to expand to Damascus,” he said in the documentary, according to The New Arab.
Smotrich is an Israeli settler who has argued that it is moral to starve Gazans. He admitted that Israel will not achieve its goals quickly, but rather “little by little.”

Smotrich represents Israelis who want to see a “Greater Israel.”
He was given control of the West Bank territories in June, and while his power in Israel has surged, he is largely ignored in the Western media because it could raise questions about Tel Aviv’s true motives in Gaza and Lebanon.
Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, another extremist minister, have control of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because they can dissolve the government whenever they want, which would remove him from office. Netanyahu would then have to face his corruption charges.
Smotrich has used the 7 October Hamas attack as an excuse to steal Palestinian land — mainly in the West Bank — but his fellow settlers now have their sights set on Gaza.
His views were once considered fringe in Israeli society, but since the Hamas attack, have become mainstream. He dreamed of how to kill Palestinians by withholding food, but admitted that while “starving 2 million Palestinians to death may be justified,” it would be “frowned on by the international community.”
“We [Israel] bring in aid because there is no choice…We can’t, in the current global reality, manage a war. Nobody will let us cause 2 million civilians to die of hunger, even though it might be justified and moral, until our hostages are returned…We live today in a certain reality, we need international legitimacy for this war,” he said in August.
Smotrich and Ben-Gvir criticized Netanyahu on Thursday for sending Mossad head David Barnea to Qatar to negotiate for a hostage release in Gaza.
“I deeply regret the prime minister’s decision to approve the Mossad chief's trip for negotiations with Qatar, " Smotrich said, according to Ynet. "Qatar is an enemy state that supports Hamas and backs its positions in negotiations. Its goal is to prevent us from destroying Hamas. Qatar owns Al Jazeera, which severely damages Israel's global image and undermines our existential fight. Nothing good can come from its involvement, and we should reject it outright.”
