Russian President Vladimir Putin bushed aside the recent New York Times report that claimed a “pro-Ukrainian group” with no ties to Washington or Kyiv was somehow the culprits.
“Who is interested? Theoretically, the United States is interested in stopping the supply of Russian energy to the European market and supplying volumes of its own,” he said, according to Al Jazeera. “Such an explosion, so powerful and at such depth, could only be conducted by experts backed by the entire potential of a state that has relevant technologies.”
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s press secretary, brushed off the recent New York Times report that laid blame on a “pro-Ukrainian group” with no ties to the U.S. or Kyiv for the September attack on the Nord Stream pipelines.
“This is not just strange,” Peskov said. “It smells like a monstrous crime. At least, the shareholder countries of the pipelines and the UN should demand an urgent transparent investigation, which would involve all parties that could shed light [on the sabotage],” Peskov said, according to Russia’s RT.
The report also noted that Russia’s embassy to the U.S. also said The Times’s article seemed like nothing more than an “attempt to confuse those who are sincerely trying to get to the bottom of things in this egregious crime.” The embassy also criticized the blatant silence after the bombshell report from Sy Hersh, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who recently spoke to Gerald Celente.
TRENDPOST: Hersh also brushed off The Times article that blamed the attack on a “pro-Ukrainian group.”
Hersh’s original story went into detail on how the U.S. and Norway allegedly carried out the elaborate bombing. His theory is that President Joe Biden was concerned Germany would turn back to Russia for its natural gas if there was a cold winter and restart the pipeline. The White House called Hersh’s story completely false.
The Times report cited unnamed U.S. officials who said they reviewed new intelligence about the pro-Ukraine group with no known ties to the Ukrainian government. Ukraine also denied any role in the attack.
The paper said: “The review of newly collected intelligence suggests they were opponents of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, but does not specify the members of the group, or who directed or paid for the operation.”
Hersh, when contacted by The Trends Journal, seemed unimpressed with the report and joked, “I always thought either Somalia or Nepal were behind it.”
Russia’s criticism of the lack of coverage after Hersh’s report followed an article by FAIR, the media watchdog group, that said there was “not a word broadcast by the major U.S. broadcast networks—NBC, ABC, CBS—or the publicly funded broadcasters PBS and NPR. No news stories on the nation’s major cable outlets, CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News.”
Nebenzia told the UN Security Council that European countries cannot be trusted to carry out a fair investigation and he wants the UN to probe the attack. He said if the perpetrators are not found and brought to justice, it could become open season on undersea infrastructure for military strikes.
WHY?
Hersh said even Biden was trepidatious about carrying out such an audacious attack that jeopardized U.S.-German relations. But Biden is not around “deep thinkers.”
“The Europeans have lost a gene of independence, sovereignty and national interest. The more they [Americans] hit them on their noses or the top of their heads, the lower they bend and the broader they smile.” -Putin
“I know this sounds strange. I don’t think that [Secretary of State] Antony Blinken and some others in the administration are deep thinkers,” he told The Wire, an Indian nonprofit news and opinion website.
Hersh noted that days after the explosion, Blinken addressed reporters and called the situation a “tremendous opportunity to once and for all remove the dependence on Russian energy” and “take away from (Putin) the weaponization of energy as a means of advancing his imperial designs.”
“There certainly are people in the American economy who like the idea of us being more competitive. We’re selling LNG, liquefied gas, at extremely big profits; we’re making a lot of money on it. I’m sure there were some people thinking, boy, this is going to be a long-time boost for the American economy. But in that White House, I think the obsession was always re-election, and they wanted to win the war, they wanted to get a victory, they want Ukraine to somehow magically win,” he said.
Putin said the attack on the Nord Stream and the response showed Europe’s subservient position in relations with the US, Al Jazeera noted.
“The Europeans have lost a gene of independence, sovereignty and national interest,” Putin said. “The more they [Americans] hit them on their noses or the top of their heads, the lower they bend and the broader they smile.”

❝. . . the present conflict is a huge distraction from the fact that, for decades, the biggest threat to Ukraine hasn’t been Russia, but financiers and speculators operating with impunity within Ukraine’s borders to exploit ethnic Ukrainians and plunder their resources.❞
