Putin Vows Response to Latest 'Terrorist' Attack on Crimean Bridge
The Trends Journal has called on Ukraine to negotiate for a peaceful resolution because it cannot defeat Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called Ukraine’s latest strike on the Crimean Bridge an act of terror that warrants a response by the Russian military.
“The incident is a yet another terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime,” Putin said, after noting that two civilians were killed in the strike. “This crime is pointless from the military point of view, since the Crimean Bridge has long not been used for military transport, and brutal, since only innocent civilians were killed and injured.”
RT, the Russian news outlet, reported that Putin said the Russian Defense Ministry was already preparing “necessary proposals” in response.
Russian state media said the explosions occurred before dawn and killed a married couple. Their daughter was wounded.
The New York Post reported that Ukraine took responsibility for the attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said his forces will not lay down their arms until they retake Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.
Russian Defense minister Sergey Shoigu said last month that Russian intelligence indicates that Ukraine is coming up with plans to use U.S. and U.K.-made artillery to strike Crimea, a move that would further not only escalate the Ukraine War, but it would officially put the U.S. and U.K. at war with Russia.
Shoigu noted that Kyiv would use U.S. HIMARS and British Storm Shadow cruise missiles to attack Crimea. He said if Ukraine uses these missiles in such an attack, it will mean the U.S. and Britain “would be fully dragged into the conflict and would entail immediate strikes on decision-making centers in Ukraine,” indicating that Zelensky and his team would be targeted.
Video emerged last month that showed a missile hitting a bridge linking southern Ukraine to Crimea, and Russia said British missiles were used. Thus, while Ukraine did not claim responsibility for the strikes, considering the recent strike on an ammunition depot in Kherson, Kyiv was blamed for the strike as a means to impede Russia’s ability to resupply troops.
Victoria “Fuck the EU” Nuland, who was a major player in the U.S.-led coup in Ukraine back in 2014, called Crimea a legitimate target for Ukrainian forces.
