RITTER: Assad's Fall Looks Good at the Moment for Israel, Turkey, but Nobody Knows What Happens Next
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday took credit for the fall of Damascus

Scott Ritter, the former UN weapons inspector, posted on X Sunday that nobody could have predicted the swift collapse of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad’s government, and while the current situation seems to be favorable to Turkey and Israel, nobody has any idea what happens next.
‘This [the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham attack] was never supposed to be anything other than a localized attack in the vicinity of Aleppo,” Ritter posted.
He continued:
“But when the HTS fighters encountered no resistance, they pushed on. Everything that unfolded from that point appears to be opportunistic exploitation of the unexplained, and unexplainable, collapse of the Syrian nation. As Syria collapsed, those nations that had been conspiring against Syria have pounced on the rubble of that nation and declared victory. Those nations that supported Syria are left to gaze in bewilderment at the evaporation of everything they had worked to achieve over the past decade. But none of this was planned.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday took credit for the fall of Damascus to ISIS/Al Qaeda and said, “This is a direct result of the blows we have inflicted on Iran and Hezbollah, the main supporters of the Assad regime.”
“This has created a chain reaction throughout the Middle East of all those who want to be free from this oppressive and tyrannical regime,” he said.
Ritter said, “Things look good at the moment for Israel and Turkey. And things certainly look bad for Russia and Iran. But there are many unknowns lying in ambush for all parties involved. Because none of this was predicted. And nobody has a plan for what happens next.”
One of Netanyahu’s first announcements was that Israel plans to steal more land.
“We are acting first and foremost to protect our border,” he said, according to The Times of Israel. “This area has been controlled for nearly 50 years by a buffer zone agreed upon in 1974, the Separation of Forces Agreement. This agreement has collapsed, the Syrian soldiers have abandoned their positions.”
On Saturday, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump posted on Truth Social about the gains the “opposition fighters” made in Syria and said they were able to make such inroads because Russia is “so tied up in Ukraine,” with the loss there “of over 600,000 soldiers.”
Trump said it seemed Russia was incapable of defending Syria’s Assad because it is bogged down.
Trump’s message was criticized because the main group attacking Syria, Turkish-backed Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, is a designated terror group in the U.S.
“They are al-Qaeda in Syria. Someone has Trump's ear and is pumping him full of lies,” Daniel McAdams, the head of the Ron Paul Institute, posted.
Videos emerged on social media of then-President Trump bragging about stealing Syrian oil.
“I left troops [in Syria] to take the oil. I took the oil. The only troops I have are taking the oil. They're protecting the oil. I took over the oil,” he told Fox News.
Trump was questioned about where he came up with the 600,000 dead Russian troops.
One pro-Ukraine war commenter called Trump’s comment a” very, very lovely slap into Putin’s face.”
Jeffery Sachs, the Columbia economist, noted how the U.S. has tried for years to overthrow Assad, which he called a disaster and an opening for jihadists to emerge in the country.
He said the U.S. involvement started with U.S. President Barack Obama and continued under Trump.
“Netanyahu has done more damage to the United States than just about anyone on the planet — Iraq, Syria, Lybia. —These useless wars were fought for Israel's sake, not for American security's sake,” he said.
Ritter concluded in another post that the fall of Syria calls into question the future of Palestine.
“The potential for the existence of Palestine always hinged on the strategic defeat of Israel,” he posted. “But Netanyahu appears to have pulled a magic rabbit out of his hat. As things stand, the Axis of Resistance that made the strategic defeat of Israel possible is in complete shambles. Syria is gone. Iran is mute. Hezbollah is isolated and weakened. Hamas is on its own. Israel has suddenly emerged from the bowels of defeat to claim a strategic victory. If this trajectory remains unchecked, I fear everything the Palestinians fought and sacrificed for since October 7, 2023, will be lost forever.”
Another Rogue CIA misadventure? Trump is not in control and the Neocons want to reshape the landscape so Trump is reactive, no longer able to take the initiative.
Trump is being "managed" by Neo-cons in a similar way that Joe Biden was managed by the satanic Deep State Cabal. This was true in 2017 as well. Actions speak louder than words.
The New York Post is a Neo-con rag that reeks of racism anti-Russian propaganda and provides cover for Trump's bellicose statements.
It's so obvious by Trump's remarks who he listens to.
For the record: Trump has no intention of listening to RFK and/or Tulsi Gabbard even if their nomination was approved albeit very unlikely.
Trump is, first and foremost, a populist huckster who believes the P.T. Barnum quote: "A (MAGA) sucker is born every second in America".
