Russia Amasses Hundreds of Thousands of Troops on Ukraine Border for 'Revenge' Strike
Kyiv should have used Afghanistan as a cautionary tale.
NOTE TO READERS: The Trends Journal has been calling on Ukraine to ignore Washington’s push for more war and negotiate with Russia — even if it means ceding territory. Any mention of peace has been banned in the media, including an OccupyPeace rally last summer that included some of the top names in the peace movement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that hundreds of thousands of Russian troops are forming on its border for what will likely be a major “revenge” offensive.
Zelensky has been growing desperate in public statements and described his military as in need of more Western weapons, much faster. Indeed, the West agreed to provide Ukraine with tanks, but those are months away.
“Now Russia is concentrating its forces. We all know that. It is preparing to try to take revenge, not only against Ukraine, but against a free Europe and the free world,” he said, trying desperately to sell the disproven Domino Theory.
Freedom in Europe and in the West is not under attack, and the war in Ukraine could have been resolved early on if Kyiv was not reportedly instructed by ex-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson that the West was not ready for a compromise.
The Western public has been sold the propaganda that Ukraine was somehow winning the conflict and Russian forces were in disarray, which was never believable. (Imagine how quickly NATO would have gotten directly involved if Brussels and Washington really thought Moscow was on the brink.)
The Biden administration promised Zelesnky well over $100 billion in financing and weapons in hopes to weaken Russia. Anyone who mentioned peace was quickly dismissed.
What could be the most interesting takeaway from all this, is why — after the fall of Kabul — Ukraine invested so much in President Joe Biden.
Biden was known to draw comparisons between Afghanistan and Vietnam.

According to George Packer’s 2019 book, “Our Man: Richard Holbrooke and the End of the American Century,” Biden, who was vice president in 2010, told the top diplomat that the U.S. should pull out of Afghanistan despite the humanitarian costs.
F-35s FOR UKRAINE?
“Fuck that. We don’t have to worry about that,” Biden reportedly told Holbrooke. “We did it in Vietnam. Nixon and Kissinger got away with it.”
Western propaganda has been losing steam in recent weeks. The Polish president said last month that Ukraine may not “survive” conflict with Russia and a top Ukrainian official said last weekend that a victory is impossible without an advanced air force.
Meanwhile, Russia seems confident in its position. Sergey Lavrov, the top diplomat, said Kyiv will end up losing more land every time it receives a new Western weapons system.
The West is desperate to keep the public afraid of a resurgent Russia.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said last week that it is urgent that the West remains united in the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine because if Moscow is not stopped, it will try to take over the rest of Europe.
He told CNBC that if Russian President Vladimir Putin is not stopped and able to “go about his business, it won’t end with Ukraine. The whole West is threatened.”
“People feel that this is about values, that we cannot accept one country invading another country…It is also about our collective safety,” he said.
Jens Stoltenberg, the alliance’s head, told the World Economic Forum in Davos that more weapons are needed to achieve peace in Ukraine.
Stoltenberg, who has been a top proponent of the war, addressed a “Restoring Security and Peace” plenary session and said, “Weapons are the way to peace.”
“What happens around the negotiating table is totally dependent on the strength on the battlefield. And if we want Ukraine to prevail, then they need the military strength,” he said.
