Russia Warns of Consequences if French Troops Fight in Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron floated the idea during a meeting in Paris in hopes to rally support for war funding
Russia responded Tuesday to France’s Emmanuel Macron’s comment that he could not rule out the possibility that French troops could end up fighting in Ukraine to defeat Russian troops.
Konstantin Kosachev, the vice speaker of Russia’s upper chamber, said the result of French troops fighting in Ukraine could be catastrophic.
“This is the line beyond which it’s no longer just NATO’s involvement in the war – this has been happening for a long time, but can be interpreted as the alliance entering direct hostilities, or even as a declaration of war,” Kosachev posted on Telegram, according to RT, the Russian outlet.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, said conflict with Russia is “not going to be about probability, but inevitability” if these troops are deployed, according to TASS.
Macron told a conference on Monday that he couldn’t rule out French troops entering the fray in Ukraine. He said “Nothing should be ruled out.”
Marcon said it is his goal that Russia does not succeed in Ukraine.
