Strong Presidents Negotiate, Weak Presidents Don't: SACHS
Columbia professor blames the Biden administration for refusing to negotiate to end the Ukraine War
Jeffery Sachs, the Columbia economist, said in an interview with Judge Andrew Napolitano on Monday that the sign of a strong U.S. president is a willingness to negotiate, while the hallmark of a weak administration is a complete refusal, which is what we see in the Biden White House.
Sachs spoke about the peace deal from Russian President Vladimir Putin that the administration wrote off as unacceptable.
“There is a way to reach peace at the negotiating table,” Sachs said. “It's the U.S. that keeps rejecting the idea of negotiations.”
He said he's never seen an administration so opposed to negotiations than President Joe Biden’s.
“Other presidents have understood that you negotiate. It's not a matter of left or right,” he said. He continued, “We had President Reagan absolutely negotiating with the Soviet Union, and he famously said the way to negotiate is to ‘trust but verify.’ In other words, ‘I’m not going to be a sap in this, but I'm ready to negotiate. President Kennedy negotiated… on and on… strong presidents negotiate, weak presidents don't, and this is our problem right now.
Putin on Friday, once again, laid out his concrete steps for peace in Ukraine, which the illegitimate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky quickly rejected.
The two key sticking points for Russia are that it keeps the four regions it now either controls or partially controls in the east, and Kyiv provides assurances that it will not join NATO, which Russia has long warned is a red line.
“Our side will order a ceasefire and start negotiations the minute Kyiv declares that it is prepared to take this decision and starts the actual withdrawal of troops from those regions, and also formally informs us that it no longer plans to join NATO,” Putin said, according to RT.

Zelensky, like a good little U.S. puppet who banned elections to stay in power, rejected the offer.
“What can I say? These messages are ultimatum messages, they are nothing different than other ultimatums that he has made before,” he said.
