The top military official in Taiwan warned the U.S. Monday to ignore the idea floated by a congressman that one way to deter China from invading the island is to threaten to “blow up” the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

Chiu Kuo-cheng, Taiwan’s minister of National Defense, said his armed forces would not tolerate the destruction of any Taiwanese facility, according to TaiwanNews.com. He said his armed forces would not tolerate the U.S. bombing Taiwanese facilities.

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., made the comment while attending a conference at the Milken Institute earlier this month.

Moulton was with Michele Flournoy, who started WestExec Advisers with Antony Blinken, the secretary of state in 2017. The “secretive consulting firm” that has been criticized for its revolving door in the Biden administration.

Flournoy distanced herself from his comments and said if TSMC was destroyed, there would be a "two trillion dollar impact on the global economy within the first year" and "you'd put manufacturing around the world at a standstill."
