Western media tries to soften the seriousness of the loss

No matter how the Western media tries to spin this, Ukraine suffered a devastating blow Monday after ordering its forces holed up in the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol to surrender after a weekslong standoff with Russian forces.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has been praised in the media as the second coming of Winston Churchill, took to Telegram to express hope that the 260 Ukrainian soldiers who were evacuated from the steel plant will be spared. NPR pointed out that it is unclear if they will be taken prisoner under protection of the UN. The report said hundreds remain at the plant and Ukraine is working on evacuating them.
"The supreme military command ordered the commanders of the units stationed at Azovstal to save the lives of the personnel... Defenders of Mariupol are the heroes of our time," the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces said in a statement.
Note to Readers: The Trends Journal is completely opposed to the Russian invasion but believes that the best option is for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to negotiate a peace deal and stop listening to President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson who are fighting a proxy war to weaken Russia, all while sacrificing brave Ukrainians. We’ve pointed out for months that the U.S. has not won a war since WWII, and just recently had a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan — after spending $2 trillion over two decades.
Ukrainian forces were trapped in a sprawling steel plant in Mariupol after fierce fighting with Russian troops. Russian President Vladimir Putin decided not to raid the plant and instead ordered fighters to form a blockade to starve out the Ukrainian soldiers. Putin did not believe it made sense to send his troops into the campus, which could cost Russian lives. “Block off this industrial area so that a fly cannot pass,” Putin said.

Anna Malyar, Ukraine's deputy defense minister, said 53 injured troops were taken to a hospital in Novoazovsk, which is under Russian control. All of the evacuees will be subject to a potential prisoner exchange with Russia, she said, according to Reuters.
PUTIN ONCE WANTED TO JOIN NATO, BUT THEN BILL CLINTON REPORTEDLY GOT IN THE WAY
The news agency was on the ground near the plant and reported seeing “five buses carrying troops from Azovstal arrive in Novoazovsk late on Monday. In one, marked with Z - a symbol for Russia's invasion - men were stacked on stretchers on three levels. One man was wheeled out, his head tightly wrapped in thick bandages.”
The New York Times reported that the steel plant was seen by Ukrainians as a “powerful symbol of the suffering inflicted by Russia and the stalwart bravery of Ukrainian defenders.”
Ukraine said that the Mariupol soldiers had “fulfilled” their combat mission.
CNN and other media outlets tried to avoid using the words “defeat” and “loss” in headlines in an apparent effort to keep pushing the propaganda that Ukraine is winning the war. By selling the government line, the next time Biden wants to send Zelensky $40 billion more in aid, it will seem more reasonable to many Americans.
CNN’s headline read, “Ukraine Declares ‘Combat Mission’ Over in Mariupol Amid Evacuation. The Times’ headline read, “Ukraine Signals End of Bitter Battle at Azovstal Steel Plant.”
But left out was the key detail that the loss was a major blow to the Ukrainian military.
TRENDPOST: The Western media has spent months humanizing Ukrainian troops while demonizing Russian fighters in a continued effort to make every American hate Russians. Scott Ritter, the former weapons inspector, told Gerald Celente at the start of the conflict that governments have to make its citizens hate another country before they can go to war.
Any loss of life on a battlefield is tragic, and any civilian killed or uprooted is heartbreaking. But this war could have been avoided when Putin made his security demands and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken essentially laughed at them and dared the Kremlin to invade.
Unfortunately for the world, President Joe Biden hates Putin and is surrounded by cowardly chicken hawks like Blinken, whose ties to private capital companies should raise ethics concerns. But no mainstream outlet is willing to touch the story.
We point out in this week’s magazine (subscribe here for our monthly plan) that Putin is digging in for a long war. The U.S. has not been bashful in its support of Kyiv and on Monday night, advanced a $40 billion aid package that guarantees more bloodshed. Sen. Lindsey Graham, the chicken hawk from South Carolina, said he will not be surprised if they have a few rounds of these injections.
Putin Calms Rhetoric When it Comes to Finland, Sweden NATO Membership
The Kremlin has issued stark warnings against the idea of Finland and Sweden joining NATO , but on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin seemed to try and lower the temperature.
He said that he has “no problem with these states” joining the alliance but warned that the “expansion of military infrastructure into this territory would certainly provoke our response.”
Reuters reported that Putin told the leaders of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which includes Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan that the Ukraine invasion was necessary because the U.S. was using Ukraine “to threaten Russia through NATO enlargement and Moscow had to defend against the persecution of Russian-speaking people.”
