U.S. Warns Iran Not to Widen Israel War, Sends Ohio-Class Submarine to Region
Iran has said the U.S. will be “hit hard” if Gazans keep being killed in Israeli strikes
While the U.S. continues to warn Iran not to escalate tensions in the Middle East, it continues to flood the region with weapons and equipment to be better capable of waging an extensive war on behalf of Israel.
U.S. Central Command announced on X that an Ohio-class submarine arrived in an “area of responsibility” on 5 November. CNN noted that the photo that was shared showed the guided missile submarine “in the Suez Canal passing under the Al Salam Bridge northeast of Cairo.”
The CNN report said: Each SSGN can carry 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles, 50% more than US guided-missile destroyers pack and almost four times what the US Navy’s newest attack subs are armed with.
Each Tomahawk can carry up to a 1,000-pound high-explosive warhead.
The sub, which was not named, arrived in the region at about the same time as the second U.S. carrier group (Dwight D. Eisenhower). U.S. Naval Forces Central Command said the carrier group transited the Suez Canal and entered the Red Sea on Saturday.
“The strike group brings an unparalleled combat superiority to CENTCOM and we will be leveraging our presence in the theater to enhance regional security and operate alongside our allies and partners,” Rear Adm. Marc Miguez, commander of Carrier Strike Group 2, said in a Navy news release, according to The Navy Times.
The Navy also said: “The submarine’s rapid deployment in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility demonstrates flexibility and dynamic ability to deter potential adversaries, reassure partners, enhanced maritime security, and ensure freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce.”
Tensions have been high between the U.S. and Iran over Israel’s bombing campaign in Gaza. Iran said the U.S. will be “hit hard” if Gazans keep being killed.
