White House to Israel: Why So Upset? UN Ceasefire Vote Was Bullshit Anyway
The White House responded to Israel’s temper tantrum by admitting that the ceasefire resolution meant nothing, so it was unclear why Netanyahu was losing his cool
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office — at least for the cameras — looked like it was baffled at the U.S.’s decision not to veto a ceasefire resolution at the UN, which has become a tradition when other countries have tried to save Palestinians.
Netanyahu’s office excoriated the U.S. and said the decision to abstain from the vote was “a clear retreat from the consistent US position in the Security Council since the beginning of the war,” and one that “gives Hamas hope that international pressure will allow them to get a ceasefire without releasing our hostages,” according to The Times of Israel.
But the White House responded Monday to Israel’s temper tantrum by admitting that the ceasefire resolution was complete bullshit anyway, so it was unclear why Netanyahu was losing his cool.
“It seems like the Prime Minister’s Office is choosing to create a perception of daylight here when they don’t need to do that,” John Kirby, the White House National security council spokesman, told reporters. “We’re kind of perplexed by this. It’s a non-binding resolution, so there’s no impact at all on Israel’s ability to continue to go after Hamas.”
(Of course by saying “Israel’s ability to go after Hamas,” he really means doing whatever the hell it wants to in Gaza.)
The New York Times reported that the chamber “broke into applause after the vote.”
But we reported that there was never any real chance of it succeeding.
Craig Mokhiber, who resigned from his post as director of the New York Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, said the resolution adopted by the UN lasts about 2 weeks and calls for humanitarian aid, lawful treatment of detainees, and the release of hostages.
“Weak as it is, the U.S. is already undercutting it by saying (falsely) that the ceasefire is conditional & that the res is non-binding,” he posted on X.
Jake Sullivan, the White House’s national security adviser, posted on X later in the day that he met with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant in Washington and the two just had a grand old time. (Gallant is famous for announcing a complete siege on Gaza at the start of the war.
“There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly,” he said at the time.
Sullivan said the two “had a constructive discussion on how best to ensure Hamas' lasting defeat in Gaza.”
“I conveyed President Biden’s iron-clad support for Israel’s security and defense against all threats, including Iran. I welcomed Yoav’s commitment to take additional steps to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” Sullivan said.
TRENDPOST: The Trends Journal has been reporting since January 2023, and that is that the Israeli Knesset is packed with racists and extremists who have called for the expulsion of Palestinians from the territory long before the Hamas attack on 7 October.
Up until six months ago, I would never imagined exterminators being whine aficionados. Even Freud would have been stumped.
