Why is Nancy Pelosi Provoking China with Visit to Taiwan?
U.S., once again, sends mixed message on foreign policy
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi touched down in Taiwan on Tuesday to show the U.S.’s “unwavering commitment” to Taiwan’s democracy despite further damaging Washington’s relationship with Beijing and pushing the countries closer to military confrontation.
The media whores in the U.S. will praise Pelosi for her courage, but if a war is a result, will it be her privileged family that fights China? No. Her husband will continue to enjoy their Napa estate and stay out of trouble, and her daughter will still get access to people like George W. Bush make her “documentaries.” (It’s one big club, like George Carlin said.)
In true U.S. fashion, Washington made it clear to Taiwan that it would be on its own if China invaded just before her taxpayer-funded trip to the island. The U.S. clarified that it does not support Taipei’s independence.
So there are likely a lot of people in Taiwan wondering about the mixed messages from the U.S., which seems to be the Biden administration’s adopted foreign policy approach. (SEE: BIDEN SAYS, AGAIN, U.S. WILL FIGHT FOR TAIWAN, WH DENIES)
It was not long ago that Ukrainians believed the U.S. may come to its aid during a Russian attack. After all, part of the reason Russia invaded was because the U.S. and NATO insisted that the door was open for Ukrainian membership. But Ukraine was never invited and Washington did nothing to bring Kyiv into NATO’s fold because Russia called Ukraine’s membership a red line.
Jens Stoltenberg, the secretary-general of NATO, essentially gave Russian forces a green light when he said prior to the invasion that it is important to “distinguish between NATO allies” and a partner, like Kyiv.
“NATO allies, there we provide [Article 5] guarantees, collective defense guarantees, and we will defend and protect all allies. Ukraine is a partner, a highly valued partner,” he said.
So he basically told Ukraine: You are on your own, but we’ll keep the war going by feeding you weapons.
Now, with Taiwan, we have U.S. lead propagandist, John Kirby, the National Security Council spokesperson, telling reporters on Monday that the U.S. does not “support Taiwan independence.”
“Nothing has changed about our ‘One China Policy,'” he said. “We have repeatedly said that we oppose any unilateral changes to the status quo from either side. We have said that we do not support Taiwan independence, and we have said that we expect cross-straight differences to be resolved by peaceful means.”

China’s Foreign Ministry condemned the trip, The New York Times reported. The ministry said in a statement the visit, “seriously undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, seriously undermines the political foundation of Sino-U.S. relations and sends a seriously wrong signal to the ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces.”
Zhao Lijian, China’sForeign Ministry spokesman, told reporters Monday: "We would like to tell the US once again that China is standing by, and the Chinese People's Liberation Army will never sit idly by. China will take resolute responses and strong countermeasures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Hu Xijin, a columnist for the Global Times, posted on a now-deleted tweet, ““If US fighter jets escort Pelosi’s plane into Taiwan, it is [an] invasion. The [People’s Liberation Army] has the right to forcibly dispel Pelosi’s plane and the US fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movement of obstruction. If ineffective, then shoot them down.”
The New York Times reported that there was brewing tension in Washington over the planned visit.
While military, intelligence and diplomatic officials who briefed Ms. Pelosi before she left for Asia cautioned that a stop in Taiwan might instigate a response that could escalate out of control, President Biden stopped short of urging her not to go out of deference to her status as head of a separate, equal branch of government.
The U.S. military, in the meantime repositioned military assets closer to Taiwan, Nikkei Asia reported.
TREND FORECAST: We forecast that just as Beijing has clamped down on Hong Kong protests and taken full control, so, too, will they take control of Taiwan when they are ready.
Despite condemnations when they do so, there will be no military forces from other nations that will challenge Communist China’s military might. Indeed, America, with the largest military in the world, has not won a war since World War II and cannot even win against third-world nations, such as Afghanistan, after invading that nation some 20 years ago.
The Ukraine invasion showed that the U.S. is willing to offer support by exporting military equipment and level sanctions, but it does not want to fight China in a war that it would lose. SUBSCRIBE TO THE TRENDS JOURNAL FOR THE FULL FORECAST
the Psychopaths and empty shirts in Washington are making lots of money and giving billions to the Military Industrial Complex. That is their main purpose. This has been the modus operandi since I was a young infantry soldier during the Viet Nam nightmare. Our young are fodder for the Machine that is run in Washington...these psychos do not care about you or anyone. You are not in the club, as George Carlin would say...Peace...Where are the negotiators?
