Wormlike Trump nervously defers to Netanyahu when asked about a Palestinian State
The Israeli leader is always willing to direct the Trump administration
U.S. President Donald Trump knows who’s in charge when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in town, and it was never more evident when he clamored up after a reporter asked him about the chances of a two-state solution in the Middle East and sheepishly handed the question to his guest of honor.
“I don’t know, I’d ask Bibi that question,” Trump said. “You have the greatest man in the world to answer that age-old question.”
Trump looked at Netanyahu and said, “Go ahead, give them your honest answer.”
Netanyahu, always willing to direct the president, said, “I think the Palestinians should have all the powers to govern themselves, but none of the powers to threaten us. That means a sovereign power, like overall security, will always remain in our hands.”
RT reported that Netanyahu later said: “We will work out a peace with our Palestinian neighbors, those who don’t want to destroy us, and we will work out a peace in which our security, the sovereign power of security, always remains in our hands.”
Amos Schocken, the publisher of Haaretz, told an audience in London last year that the Israeli government has no intention of seeking a two-state solution and will do all it can to keep stealing more land in the occupied territories, despite international criticism.
“It doesn’t care about imposing a cruel apartheid regime on the Palestinian population,” he said, according to The Jerusalem Post. “It dismisses the costs of both sides for defending the settlements while fighting the Palestinian freedom fighters that Israel calls terrorists.”
He compared the current situation in the occupied territories and Gaza as a “second Nakba of sending and creating refugees, even people who lived in the occupied territories in Area C and the people who live in the northern part of Gaza.”
Netanyahu announced that there would be no two-state solution as long as he’s in charge.
