Things are usually not as clear-cut as Washington wants you to believe

U.S. President Joe Biden was serving up so many “whoppers” during his UN speech last week on the state of the Ukraine War that he looked like he should apply for a job at Burger King, a peace activist said.
Walt Zlotow, the president of the West Suburban Peace Coalition, penned a column for AntiWar.com that mocked Biden’s speech as detached from reality.
UKRAINIAN OFFICIAL: WHAT DOES ‘AS LONG AS IT TAKES’ MEAN?
Zlotow took issue with Biden’s claim that it was Russia that decided, alone, to abandon the New Start Treaty, which put limits on deployed intercontinental-range nuclear weapons.
He noted that the U.S. was the first to abandon three of the four agreements within the deal. Russia has said the U.S.’s unyielding support for Ukraine makes it impossible to move forward with working out a new agreement.
(It is worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he will abide by the deal’s limits on warheads.)
Zlotow quoted Biden, who told the UN, “Russia alone bears responsibility for this war.”
“Russia alone has the power to end this war immediately. And it is Russia alone that stands in the way of peace,” Biden said.
But things are usually not as clear-cut as Washington wants you to believe.
Zlotow noted that earlier this month Jens Stoltenberg admitted that Putin invaded Ukraine—in part—to prevent the country from joining the so-called “security” alliance. He noted that in the build-up before the war, the U.S. and NATO refused to promise Russia that Ukraine would never become a member. Zlotow joked, “On Ukraine provocation, Joe’s dining at Burger King; Jens at McDonald’s.”
TRENDPOST: The Trends Journal has been opposed to Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine but understands why they launched their military operation. Yet, the mainstream media does not report on the “why” and only identifies Russia as an existential threat and keeps promoting war.
Biden has said it is important to keep the coalition of countries that support Ukraine and it is worth noting that Rishi Sunak, the British prime minister, and Emmanuel Macron, the French president, did not attend the gathering in New York.
“The real political value is moving to other places,” Richard Gowan of the International Crisis Group, a think-tank, told The Economist. “Reform of the UN is blocked, so other political clubs inevitably become more important,” referencing the G20 and G7.
