BACKFIRED: Political assassinations in Iran will be felt by U.S., Israel for generation, analyst says
Israel is a money sponge that failed its attempt at regime change in Iran, says Dmitry Orlov
Israel’s decision to launch a surprise attack on Iran earlier this month to decapitate the Iranian military leadership and kill its nuclear scientists, and it will prove to be a mistake felt for the next generation, according to Dmitry Orlov, an analyst, told “Dialogue Works.”
“These senior Iranian commanders that have been killed were people who were interested in avoiding war” because they saw the “U.S.-sponsored war” between Iran and Iraq from 1980-1988, when Baghdad was “essentially a U.S. proxy.”
He said these senior officials, who were moderate, were replaced with a new generation of leaders who will be “more radical” and much more willing to sustain the idea of supreme sacrifice. And they will be in charge of Iran for the next generation.”
“So Israel, basically, did itself and did the United States a disservice in terms of limiting Iran’s power…an extreme disservice,” he said.
