Bullshit Blinken Posts Photo With Brazil's Lula, Says Ties 'Stronger Than Ever'
Lula has compared Israel's U.S.-backed genocide in Gaza to the Holocaust, and has blamed the U.S. for prolonging Ukraine's war
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken took to social media on Wednesday to post a warm photo of him clasping hands with Brazil’s Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who has publicly criticized Washington’s foreign policy — directly or indirectly — on the two key issues of the past few years: Ukraine and Israel.
U.S. KNESSET SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON CRITICIZES BIDEN FOR NOT BEING EAGER ENOUGH TO REJECT GAZA CEASEFIRE
Blinken, who needs a friend — especially in the Global South — was in Rio de Janeiro for the G20 meeting. He posted on X that he met with the Brazilian president before the summit started and said, “Brazil is a key partner on many issues including combatting the climate crisis and advancing human and labor rights. As we approach 200 years of U.S.-Brazil relations, our ties are stronger than ever.”
The New York Times reported that Blinken, a staunch supporter of Israel who rejected South Africa’s genocide case before evidence was even presented, “confronted” Lula for comparing Israel’s massacre in Gaza to the Holocaust.
Blinken was in Brasília where he spoke with Lula for about 90 minutes. The paper said there was a “frank exchange.”
A senior U.S. State Department official told the paper Blinken disagreed with the Brazilian leader’s recent statements.
Just days ago, Lula said, "What is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people has no parallel in other historical moments. In fact, it did exist when Hitler decided to kill the Jews. It's not a war of soldiers against soldiers. It's a war between a highly prepared army and women and children."
Any criticism of Israel is met with fierce blowback from Israel and its loyalists in the U.S.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu summed up the reaction by saying the comment “crossed a red line.”
Of course, the U.S. has been a major supporter of the genocide in Gaza, and if the White House came out tomorrow and told Netanyahu to call it off or he would lose U.S. support, he would have to. But the U.S. is completely behind Netanyahu.
Lula has also been critical of the U.S. for prolonging the Ukraine war.
