Netanyahu Looks to Strengthen Illegal Israeli Settlements in West Bank, Knows Biden Will Do Nothing
The Biden administration knows it cannot oppose Israel without losing support from his top campaign fundraisers like Jeffrey Katzenberg
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday issued a statement that his government will look into strengthening the illegal settlement in the West Bank’s Judea and Samaria in response to Ireland, Spain, and Norway’s decision to recognize Palestine as an independent state.
Consortium News noted that the announcement came just hours before Netanyahu dissolved his war cabinet and amid a wave of new settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.
Bezalel Smotrich, the extremist Israeli finance minister, issued a letter in May that called on Netanyahu to take steps to support these settlers. He called on the government to approve 10,000 new housing units and establish a new community for every country that recognizes a Palestinian state.
Volker Turk told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Tuesday that the conditions in the West Bank “is dramatically deteriorating.”
He told the body that there has been 528 Palestinians killed there since the start of the war – including 133 who were children. He said many cases raise concerns about “unlawful killings.”
Turk said he is “appalled by the disregard for international human rights and humanitarian law.”
Smotrich has described news settlements in the West Bank as a safety measure.
In December, Smotrich said there are “two million Nazis in Judea and Samaria, who hate us exactly as do the Nazis of Hamas-ISIS in Gaza.”
About three million Palestinians live in the West Bank.
Smotrich has already called on the government to “create wide security areas around settlements and roads, and prevent Arabs from approaching them,” the report said.
Norway, Spain, Ireland, and Slovenia have recently recognized Palestine as an independent state – a move rejected by the U.S. and Netanyahu, who is known to brag that he is the only Israeli leader capable of preventing statehood.
TRENDPOST: The Western media and the U.S. government do not like stories like these because they show how the Israeli government is comprised of genocidal maniacs. Smotrich said earlier this month that Israel should turn part of the West Bank into “ruined cities like in the Gaza Strip.”
Abe Silberstein, a researcher, wrote on social media following the latest news of Israel's settlement-expansion plans that this is “what total unchecked impunity sounds like."
"Netanyahu knows Biden will do nothing, and that he will in fact stop others from doing anything," he wrote.

Israel may not survive this war. It has lost all credibility save the Biden administration. And it's on its way out the WH door. Donald Trump has proven he is not a change agent. He will only make matters worse. So who is there? Who is out there that could really make a difference? Tulsi Gabbard? Ben Carson? Tim Scott? What about Diane Sare? She is running as an Independent for US Senate. If Sare is asked, she would accept a draft candidacy from either major Party? I don't see anyone else who might be qualified to hold that office. Biden was never qualified to be President and should never have been president. But the US needs someone like Diane Sare to bring this nation into safe harbor.
