U.S. Sails Warships Through Taiwan Strait, Further Instigating China
Pelosi's ill-advised trip evidently cause enough problems
The U.S. Navy announced early Sunday that two warships are “conducting a routine Taiwan Strait transit,” which traditionally irritates China that sees the move as provocative.
The U.S. said the USS Antietam and USS Chancellorsville “transited through a corridor in the Strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal State.”
“The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the United States' commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific,” the statement read. “The United States military flies, sails, and operates anywhere international law allows.”
The Guardian reported that these operations usually take between eight and 12 hours to complete and are closely monitored by the Chinese military.
Why It Matters: The Trends Journal has reported extensively on the growing tensions between China and the U.S. over Taiwan, which hit a new high earlier this month when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island despite warnings from Beijing.
Beijing has long declared Taiwan as part of its territory under its “One China Principle.” The U.S. has historically pursued a policy toward the matter as one of "strategic ambiguity," which means it will aid Taiwan's defenses but will not promise to come to the island's defenses in the event of an attack.
NOTE: We have contacted the State Department and Pelosi’s office several times to find out how much her trip cost the American taxpayer. But they have not responded to our request. We are sending a FOIA request.
Pelosi’s trip prompted a serious response from China.
China’s People’s Liberation Army launched waves of ballistic missiles into the waters surrounding Taiwan on Thursday, shortly after Pelosi’s visit. The Taiwanese Defense Ministry said the PLA fired 11 ballistic missiles into the waters off northern, southern and eastern Taiwan. Tokyo said five missiles landed in its waters.

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said Beijing carried out a simulated attack that included 14 ships, 20 planes. China announced that it will halt military cooperation with the U.S. and also sanctioned Pelosi over the visit.
China never conducted a military drill so large. Beijing deployed more than a 100 fighter jets and dozens of warships. Part of the exercises included the firing of ballistic missiles around the island. The Global Times, the state-run Chinese newspaper, said the drill on Sunday featured “island saturation attack drills and bomber deterrence flights in the Straits.”
“Fully loaded with live ammunition, several bombers and fighter bombers of the Air Force took off one by one, entered combat formations, and launched standoff, saturation strike exercises with various types of precision munitions, jointly with the Army’s long-range rocket artillery and the (PLA) Rocket Force’s conventional missiles,” the paper said.
And, instead of trying to calm tensions, members of Congress followed Pelosi’s lead and visited the island a short time later.
Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., was joined by four House arrogant idiots that the media label as “lawmakers.” The politicians included Democratic Reps. John Garamendi, Alan Lowenthal, and Don Beyer. Republican Rep. Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen also joined the band wagon.
The group met with President Tsai Ing-wen.
Banging the war drum, Markey, who has been sucking off the public tit since 1973, said in a statement that the trip was important given the increased tensions in the Taiwan Strait and the delegation “once again demonstrates the United States Congress’ firm support for Taiwan.”
Markey, like Pelosi, did not go into specific details about what U.S. support means.
China said it will take resolute countermeasures in response to the trip.
Beijing hit back against the visit, saying it would take "resolute countermeasures in response to the US's provocations" in a statement Sunday from the Chinese Embassy in Washington.
"Members of the US Congress should act in consistence with the US government's one-China policy," Liu Pengyu, a spokeswoman for the Chinese embassy in Washington, tweeted.
TRENDPOST: The only common ground found in Washington that gets true bipartisan support is international intervention that inches the U.S. closer to war. There are endless examples, but the one that stands out recently was the vote in May to provide Kyiv with $40 billion in aid, which sailed through the Senate in an 86 to 11 vote.
When Pelosi faced some criticism earlier this month for her unprovoked visit, Republicans tripped over themselves to come to her defense. Sen. Mitch McConnell, the minority leader, released a joint statement in support of Pelosi’s visit that was signed by 25 other Republican senators.
That simply doesn’t happen in Washington.
Bolsters desire to fund UNODOC in Mall Of America with IRS tax transfers or as sayblike a free straight send citizen UNODOC ships. I did try to tell people of the need to acquire UNODOC vehicles with a contract but they did not understand the official U.N. would appear to be ineffective in keeping the peace. So appropriation U.S Navy surplus ships asUNODOC ships or contract with merchant marine to go out equipped to peace keep. Or perhaps Canadian Navy can peace keep. Or maybe a Peoples Peace Keeping Force. But as you say no one is doing that yet though Peoples Army of China could as contributor to U.N Peace Keeping. Problem is that an international peoples peace keeping force required perhaps of workers of Unions
