Seymour Hersh, the investigative journalist, wrote on his Substack Thursday that he has been told by sources he’s “relied upon for decades” that the U.S. could begin its bombing campaign across Iran as soon as this weekend.

Hersh wrote:

It will entail heavy American bombing. I have vetted this report with a longtime US official in Washington, who told me that all will be “under control” if Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei “departs.” Just how that might happen, short of his assassination, is not known. There has been a great deal of talk about American firepower and targets inside Iran, but little practical thinking, as far I can tell, about how to remove a revered religious leader with an enormous following.

The White House said today that U.S. President Donald Trump will make his decision on Iran within the next two weeks.

Israel Katz, the Israeli defense minister, said Iran’s supreme leader “cannot continue to exist.”

Trump announced Tuesday that “we now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran” and told reporters that he rejected Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s March assessment that Iran is not developing nukes.

Trump was asked about Gabbard’s assessment and said, “I don’t care what she said. I think they were very close to having one.”

Trump was active on Truth Social Tuesday. He posted that “we” know exactly where the “so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding,” in reference to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“He is an easy target, but is safe there—We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he posted.

Scott Ritter, the former UN weapons inspector, posted in response to Trump’s message that the president is 100 percent “controlled by the Zionists.”

“Tulsi Gabbard needs to resign and speak out against this war,” he posted. “She did her duty and told the truth. Now she needs to complete her responsibility to the American people by speaking out against a war with Iran. And the role being played by Israel in selling this war to the President.”
