Putin Says Russia Has No Intention of Using Nukes
Biden has said the world is closer to nuclear Armageddon than any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis
Russian President Vladimir Putin told the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday that Russia sees no need to consider using nuclear weapons as its war with Ukraine drags along.
“There is no point in that, neither political, nor military,” he said, according to The Associated Press. Putin told the audience that he found former British Prime Minister Liz Truss’s comments that she would not hesitate to use nukes as problematic.

“What were we supposed to think?” he said. “We saw that as a coordinated position, an attempt to blackmail us.”
President Joe Biden was at a Democratic fundraiser in New York earlier this month when he told the audience that the risk of nuclear Armageddon is at its highest point since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Biden was introduced by James Murdoch, the son of Rupert, and said he cannot imagine Russia using a tactile nuclear weapon without leading the nuclear Armageddon. He said Putin “is not joking when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons.”
“I don’t think there’s any such thing as the ability to easily (use) a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon,” Biden said, according to a pool reporter.

He said his administration is trying to figure out: What is Putin’s off ramp?
“Where does he find a way out? Where does he find himself where he does not only lose face but significant power?” he said.
Biden’s comments came shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the West to take “preventive action” to stop Moscow from using tactical nukes.
The AP reported that Putin told the audience that the world “faces a choice: accumulate a load of problems that will inevitably crush us all or try to find solutions that may not be ideal but could work and could make the world more stable and secure.”
Putin criticized the process in which Truss was named the new British prime minister.
“In the UK, the procedure for electing the head of state is far from democratic,” he told the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. “It takes place within the framework of the party that won the previous parliamentary election. The UK people do not participate in the change of government in this case.”
